I urge you to support pregnant workers by becoming a co-sponsor of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act. This bill would require employers to provide reasonable accommodations for pregnant workers. These accommodations are similar to what employers already make for other workers who require temporary adjustments for their health, ensuring that pregnant women can continue to do their jobs and support their families. This common-sense piece of legislation would close the loophole that courts have opened up in the Pregnancy Discrimination Act and make unmistakably clear to employers that they are required to accommodate pregnant employees who need it if they can do so without undue hardship. Lots of women work through their pregnancies without needing any changes on the job, but some need temporary accommodations to continue working safely. Pregnant women have been fired because they asked to avoid heavy lifting, or to stay off ladders, or to sit on a stool instead of standing at a cash register all day. Women should not have to choose between a healthy pregnancy and a job. I urge you to co-sponsor the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act today. I look forward to your response.
